Stop Avoiding Your Negative Emotions
It is quite common for people in our culture to avoid our negative emotions (jealousy, sadness, anger, resentment). In fact, I would argue that we also try to help people we care about to avoid these emotions as well. We try to look on the positive side, or ‘fix’ the problem, or find some ‘reason’ for the upsetting event. Yet research shows that experiencing and accepting all of our emotions is plays an important role in our mental well being. This interesting article illuminates the importance of accepting our negative emotions.
